John Evans Hoffman papers, 1862-1863.

Collection includes approximately 35 letters to Lt. Hoffman from his father and sisters living in West Virginia and a diary kept by Hoffman in 1863 that describes his daily activities. The letters reflect divided loyalties among Hoffman's relatives. Additional letters describe in detail how he was killed in action and the disposition of his body and personal effects. There are also several records concerning procurement of supplies.
